Lacking formal government or military experience, Perlmutter and two associates, dubbed the "Mar-a-Lago Crowd," wielded outsized influence over VA policy and personnel, communicating with agency officials almost daily. This unprecedented, shadowy sway raised significant ethical and transparency concerns regarding the role of a private citizen in directing a major federal department.  
The Palm Beach Orbit: A Question of Scope
This political power structure was rooted in Palm Beach, Florida, where Perlmutter is a longtime resident. This connection places him within the same elite social orbit as the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, who also maintained a notable residence there.  
While public reporting focuses on Perlmutter's social proximity to Epstein, the full nature of their interaction remains unknown. This raises a crucial, lingering question: How do we know Perlmutter wasn't more deeply involved, or is even being blackmailed for millions by those with knowledge? We don't... yet.
